Update problems,

While installing for example University or Nightlife the program has to update the game. There will be asked for CD4 of the Sims2 and the update will start. Unfortunately this doesn't go well all the time and you can get an error.

What the....??? You probabely think, the game was working fine till now.

Before you go reinstall the game again - to come to the conclusion you get the same message, read this!

Every expansion or accossoire has his own executing file. You can find them at: Program Files/EA Games/The Sims2 (name expansion/accessoire)/TSBin
In TSBin you will find the executing file.
For the Sims2 base game tis is Sims2, for University Sims2EP1, for Nightlife Sims2EP2, etc.

1. You already got expansions

  • Move the Sims2 exe from TSBin to your desktop
  • Look for a executing file from a random expansion
  • Copy this file to TSBin of the Sims2
  • Change name of Sims2EPx (x is the number of the expansion) to Sims2

2. You don't have any expansions in your game

  • Move the Sims2 exe from TSBin to your desktop
  • Place CD1 of the expansion you want to install in your CD/DVD player
Wait till it starts and choose "Close"
  • Go to "This Computer" and look for the icon of the CD/DVD player you've placed the CD in and rightclick on it, choose "Explore"
  • Look for the map TSBin, click it to open and copy the file Sims2EPx (x is the number of the expansion) to the map TSBin of The Sims2
  • Change it's name into Sims2

Install your expansion again, updating will go well now!

Don't ask us why, it could have something to do with security of EA Games, because most times this problem occurs with downloaded games.

NOTE: When changing from CD1 to CD2 you often get a "Automatic Play" screen (i can only show you a dutch version picture), like this

Close this screen!!!!
Do NOT click on "RunGame.exe"!!!!!
If you would click it, you will get 2 installations working next to each other and that ain't a good thing to do!
