Installation with Vista

Also look at Sims and Vista

Check the next things to get The Sims correctly installed:

  1. Click on "Start" and click on the icon of your account
Check if you have "Administrator rights"
  2. Look on taskbar (right-bottom where clock is) which icons you see, close as many as possible, at least your virus scanner, like Norton

Removing of old installation:
(this is very important!)

  1. Click on "Start" and choose "Configurations"
  2. Choose "Programs' , then "Program and Tools"
  3. Look for "The Sims" and everything that started with "The Sims", like "The Sims - making magic or any other expanssion - Remove them all
  4. Click on "This Computer" and go to C:\\Program Files; delete the map called "Maxis"
  5. Put CD1 of the basegame (deluxe) in your cd-station (use PowerIso for Iso fles) and look for the icon of your CD-station, right-click on it and choose "Explore"
Look for a map called "Eraser", open it and doubleclick on a file named "Eraser" (kind of blue trafficboard)
Repeat this steps for all expansions.

Installation:

Install the games in this order:

Basegame (or Deluxe)
The Rich Life (which is in Deluxe)
Hot Date
Party
Vacation
Unleashed
Superstar
Making Magic

Install the game but don't play yet untill you have installed all expansions, so close the game after each installation if you need to install more expansions!

When you have installed all expansions then you take some safty measurements:

  • Copy the map C:\\Program Files\Maxis to your Desktop
  • Download the NoCD-Crack for the highest expansion from http://www.tarac.nl/NoCD/Sims1NoCD.html
    Choose "Save"
  • Make sure you have Winrar installed, otherwise download it from www.winrar.nl and install it.
  • Right-click on the downloaded NoCD-crack and choose "Unpack in....name of the NoCD-crack.
You now get a new map with the name of the crack. Click on it to open and you will see something like a trafficboard again with the name Sims.exe
  • Copy this file (Sims.exe) to C:\\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims
You will get the question if you wanna copy and replace the existing file....choose "Yes"
  • As soon the file Sims.exe (the NoCD-crack that is) you've it in the map like said, make a shortcut of this file to your desktop

Play the game:

  1. Remove all The Sims CD's from your pc
  2. Start the game by doubleclicking the shortcut you just made.
You will get the notification that there is no CD or a wrong CD is placed
Click "Ok" and the game will start anyway!

Wat can go wrong:

You can't install:

    • You ain't logged in as an Administrator - make sure you are!
    • A program like Norton or DeamonTools is causing problems, you then need to install in "Save Mode"

You get an error about Direct X

    • You didn't put the NoCD-crack on the right place

You get the question again if you want to install or de-install the game:

    • There is a The Sims CD in your pc

When you follow these steps secure, the game HAS TO play!

Supplementary tips:

Depanding on your pc and/or your videocard it could happen that The Sims seems very big on your screen. In that case, right-click on the shortcut on your desktop, choose "Properties" and type in the screen "Path or Goal" behind Sims.exe a space and then -r1024x768.

Owners of a widescreen monitor or laptop have to exept that the view is biased. The Sims doesn't support widescreen

Why didn't i had to put a copy on my desktop?

When one day it is nesecary to reinstall all The Sims games then you just need to do this:

      1. Remove the old installation like written above
      2. Install the basegame
      3. Copy the map "Maxis" from your desktop to C:\\Program Files
      4. Install the highest expansion
You don't need to install all other expansions again!

AGAIN: When you follow above instructions carefully it has to succeed! But don't leave one of the steps behind, because it will not work!
