How to keep your computer in good health,

Your computer will run better and faster if you keep it in good health.

In windows you will find Desktopaccessories: Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Systemtools

DISK DEFRAGMENTER

By defragmentation, your programs and files will be repositionned on your disk. Compare it with a grammophone record. The pickup-arm (needle) will follow the grooves and produce music in a constant flow. If your record would be fragmented, you woul need to lift the arm, start at groove 16 lift it up again to grroove 4, then to groove 26 aso just to play 1 single tune of the record.

Fortunately a computer can do all of that, but it is of course "time-consuming".
Placing all the various parts next to each other will save time in reading it.
That is exactly what defrag will do.

DISK CLEANUP

This will safely remove all redundant files, cleans your internet-cache, empty the wastebasket.
It will provide you with more storagespace.

REGISTRY-CLEANING

All programs are stored in the registry (a kind of index), giving your computer information about the program, where to find it on the disk and other useful hints.
Every time you install or remove a program, the register will be altered.
Unfortunately, many programs you remove are still in the register and you must clean the register regularly to keep it free from obsolete items.

There are many regcleaners on the internet, I use Eusing Regcleaner (it is free)

ANTI-VIRUS

Virussus and other malware are constantly threatening the good health of your computer, so make sure you have an anti-virus program installed and running on your computer whenever you visit the internet.
I have good experiences with the free program of AVG - you can download it
